About Kalamos Greek and Mediterranean Market

Kalamos Greek & Mediterranean Market opened in 2014 in Worcester and is family-owned and -operated. Nia Niforos, Luis Ortiz, and Demi (Dimitra) Niforos are business partners of Kalamos Greek & Mediterranean Market. Nia Niforos states “it was always my passion to have a place where people could find authentic Greek food and pastries made from fresh ingredients. My brother-in-law, a Puerto Rican, fell in love with Greek food when he met my sister and started experimenting with the cuisine. He thought Spanish and Greek food were the perfect combination and decided to try some recipes, which infuse the two cultures together. This is how we invented two of our most popular items: Kalamos meat pies, which are empanadillas with a ground beef filling made using my sister’s recipe; and Kalamos heat, a spicy cilantro salsa.”

Kalamos is a specialty market and delicatessen that serves Greek and Mediterranean specialty products and foods in a family-friendly atmosphere. We offer a great selection of imported cheeses and olives, various types of extra-virgin olive oils, homemade Greek yogurt, Greek pastries and coffee, homemade spinach pie and grape leaves, pastitsio (Greek lasagna) and moussaka.
